U.S v. Lahijani

Defendant was arrested in Panama and brought to U.S. on a charge of providing false information on a U.S. passport application.   He was held in federal custody.   His first lawyer advised that he sign a plea agreement which could have resulted in a felony conviction with added time in federal custody.   After Mr. Severo took over the case, he moved the court for bail and bail was granted.  In reviewing the evidence, Mr. Severo discovered that defendant had not violated the law at all.   After discussing with the government prosecutors, the case was dismissed.
